GRAND RAPIDS — Bishop Walter A. Hurley offers the follow message at the start of Advent:

My dear friends,
I invite you to enter into the spirit of the Advent season as we prepare for the coming of the Lord at Christmas and wait for His final coming in glory.
Advent invites us to rediscover the love that God has for all and to recognize that there is a God who is guiding our life out of love.
Sacred Scripture reminds us to “wake from sleep” and not be lulled into dreams of doing good, but actually put our dreams into practice.
Advent encourages us to look deeply within ourselves; to recognize our individual gifts and strengths; to share them lovingly, so, through us, others may experience His love and peace, especially the poor and the vulnerable.
I ask God’s blessings upon all and invite you to trust in the God who loves us and calls us to love each other.
